      I have never heard or experienced this, though they do ask your Chinese level during the visa application process. At this point, China only hires foreigners who are considered experts or higher level, it is doubtful they would limit the employment resources available to them by demanding they speak Chinese. There are sooooo many biligual Chinese people here that could help a foriegn expert to pass along their skills and knowledge without the employee needing to speak anything but their native language. That said, I personally believe all foreigners working in China, myself included, absolutely MUST speak Chinese! Not only does it make the experience of living here more compfortable, but it shows a greater level of respect to our Chinese hosts. I will be answering all of the questions at my upcoming interview in Chinese and I will also continue studying.

      @@sirant it was a request from the common people... like when the common people asked their representatives to end corruption during the 2 sessions... which was why the anti corruption campaign was launch on 2009 and created the hotline for anyone can call them without worrying about being prosecuted by local corrupted gov. china is trying to get their own locals to work instead of hiring more foreigners, which was why the common people are asking the gov to enforce a law for all foreigners to learn chinese for better communication and giving more jobs back to the locals if foreigners do not wanna learn chinese... tbh... everyone should learn the language of the country they live in...it is a matter of etiquette showing respect and appreciation where you are at...in the past...most people can speak a few languages so they can communicate...

    Very informative. You give me great insight on employment in China. Just want to confirm. Is the employer or government paying for housing and/or food (at the canteen for factory workers) for all employees or some employees both professionals AND non-professionals? This would have opened up an opportunity for me 10 years ago. I am retiring at 55 years old and living the life overseas traveling.

    • @sirant
      @sirant День назад

      I guess it depends a lot on the company, but it is quite common that all employees eat together in the canteen. In some cases, higher level management may have their own private room, but eat the same food. In the last factory I worked in, all managers generally ate in the canteen and had small dormitories at work to limit the need for commuting after long working hours. I am unsure as of yet how it will be at the new factory, but I assume meals will be available should I want them. I have also worked for a couple schools that gave me a small apartment on campus, even though I lived off site. VERY nice for afternoon naps since the kids were all sleeping anyways!

    Good point mentioning the photos. Of course, everyone should know that they need a passport and an authenticated degree and authenticated background check, but I did not know that I was gonna need about 25 photos before I finish the process. You send the local Chinese consulate photos to get your visa. You're gonna need to give some to the Chinese police when you're there at different times. The health check I need 10 photos. I don't know what they're doing with these photos but they've got a lot of them.

      Agent told me this time 6-8 photos. Health check took 2 and the visa service will require 4. However, webcam technology has gotten good enough, that for my household registery and last years health check, they just used the webcam on their computer to take the photos.

    I went to China three times professionally wise. I needed to have medical assistance twice. One of those with serious complications. To reach a diagnosis I had to do several medical tests MRS, blood tests, X rays, ultrasounds, then they gave me medicine, except some Chinese medicine that wasn’t available in the hospital, by the end of the day I have paid 14 yuans (1,75 euros) 5 to cover hospital access and the other 9 I can’t remember. The other time I had muscle tear I have paid 5 yuans (65 cents). I had the best assistance I could get. The only thing I found it weird, we had other patients while we were with doctors or make the blood tests. To have access to a human right so basic health you do not have to be filthy rich. Every time l go to USA I pray for not get sick 🤢

    Thank you! I have a couple questions I don't know if you can answer. I'm an American living in South Korea and trying to get a tourism visa. Everything I have found is saying that I have to go through the old process of appointments, itineraries, bookings, etc. How can I get the new visa type from the agreement? Can I get it if I'm living abroad?

    • @sirant
      @sirant 4 дня назад

      To my understanding, (not an American, so I cannot speak from experience), you would simply fill out the application online through the E-Visa portal. The only other way I could see you doing it would be to go to Hong Kong first and process a visa there at the embassy directly.

    • @sirant
      @sirant 5 дней назад

      You don't need a reason to visit China at all, it just depends on how long you plan to stay and where you are from. Australians and New Zealanders, for example, just had their regualtions changed so they don't need any visa at all to enter China for up to 15 days for business, tourism or visiting relatives. If you were wanting to stay longer than 30-60 days, then you would need to apply for a long stay visa, which would require a lot more information on your intinerary and plans in China. Most people in the past would simply get a 30-60 day visa, then go across the border to hong kong to get another one if they planned to stay longer. The good old "Visa Run!"

    • @sirant
      @sirant 5 дней назад

      @@krazyspartanodst Hmmmm. I can guarantee you would have to remove them all or have the photo shop attendant edit them all out digitally. They made me take out a tiny little silver ring from my earlobe which I could not even see in the photos myself. This goes for men or women. No jewlery allowed, period. Once the photos are done, however, it is no issue to wear them here. However, they are not common and could very well limit your ability to get a teaching job in a traditional school or university. Facial piercing outside of the ears (other than a small nose ring or stud) is not common at all. Be prepared to be stared at ALL the time, everywhere you go. Very VERY blatantly and obviously. Chinese people are not at ALL subtle about that! You will absolutely be the center of attention in every situation you walk into.

    Both statements are polarized. The educational system in China is not as it is portrayed in western media. However, it is not as positive as portrayed in this video. China is extremely competitive. A lot of the images shown where not made for the individual students best interest but rather as a show to persuade. Under the Vail the system has deep routed issues affecting millions of students.

    • @xbman1
      @xbman1 7 дней назад

      Even if it’s true. The results of that system is still better than current N. America education system. It’s the results that matters.

  • @garyrcowan
    @garyrcowan 10 дней назад

    Hey, Canadian father and teacher in China here. I though I would balance your statement a little. There is a huge Vail covering the educational system here. You are correct that is is not as bad as if you where to compare it to the worst North Korean indoctrination camp however there are huge societal pressure that affect the majority of students. Firstly the infrastructure usually is a fasade. They tend to be poorly built and deteriorate within a couple of years. Most of the images you showed will be broken down and look terrible in five years. The security.... Also, not necesary and a rouse of security. Security is so easy to bypass because it is all for show. The actual guards are untrained and security systems ineffective. It is there to meet a standard but has no real effectiveness. I like China too. My daughter will also do her school here. The only reason I am confident about that is because she has western influence at home. The average Chinese student has extreme amounts of societal pressure based on working hard for it's own sake. Parents, teachers and instruction feed off themselves pushing students harder and harder. Often the students get lost and become studying machine for the sole purpose to complete against each other. They learn to do test and study for the sake of doing more tests and study more. This plays a huge role on their cognitive development and morals. You put put the Chinese educational system in a bright positive light however, it is also deeply flawed.

    Hong Kong people generally feel that they are nobler than mainlanders. After Hong Kong was first opened to tourism, Hong Kong people had a very bad attitude towards mainland tourists. They even physically attacked mainland tourists and called them locusts. There was no douyin before, and many people didn't know about these things. All of this is about the needs of the society and the competition with the superpowers. The society needs to maintain a high level of labor force, at the same time, it is necessary to cultivate high-tech talents to cope with the increasing international challenges. The national education system needs to quickly screen out the two types of corresponding personnel.

      I have a condition called photophobia, which is extreme photosensitivity causing pain and watering in my eyes in bright sunlight. Had it since childhood. Sorry if that bothers you, but I find it INCREDIBLY odd that someone would be looking for "eye contact" in a video anyways.....

    Any negatives about the schools?

    • @sirant
      @sirant 19 дней назад

      There are negatives in anything is you look hard enough. I did mention some of the downsides in the video, but I am not making videos to highlight negative aspects of my life in China. Exactly the opposite in fact.

      @@sirant fair point. I just see so many RUclipsrs in China that ONLY mention the good about China and never mention the bad. I went to China in 2018 for vacation and I had a great time. There were both good and bad things that I saw.

      Anti-China videos are incredibly common actually and highly lucrative unfortunately. Big $$$ to be made in hate, especially when it is fabricated nonsense designed for shock value over facts. I prefer to avoid the low hanging fruit however and stick to my principles as opposed to becoming a shill for quick profits. My upcoming videos will be showing a much different aspect of China that MANY will see as negative, as I will be leaving the modern luxuries of upscale Shenzhen for a factory town area where life is much different. SHould provide a very interesting contrast!

      @@sirant fair point. I just see so many RUclips foreigners that make puff piece videos about how China is awesome and so much better than the West without ever criticizing China. It makes you wonder. I'll take your word that you're not a CCP shill.

    • @sirant

      Could it simply be that China really just is that good a place to live? Seriously. My channel, as well as others, is about sharing positivity in general. I could be posting about just how much of a shithole Canada has become. I have pictures, videos and TONS of personal experiences to share on that topic, but overt negativity isn't what my channel is about. As for the shill thing, simply the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Thinking the CPC would give a damn about content on a blocked platform from small creators like myself is laughable, let alone that they would pay anyone to create it. The people who make those comments are just angry little people, actively searching the internet for targets for their cowardly verbal diarrhea because they don't get enough attention in real life. Sad actually.
